Tropical Forest

Having only known temporate woodland in Europe, I found myself in awe of the immensity, intensity and diversity of tropical forest. It is easy to see this as just so much green, but for me, the beauty is in the detail: the leaf patterns, the layers of moss and lichen, the curiously shaped holes left by leaf-eating insects. It is beautiful, it is critical to our survival and it is disappearing at the rate of 10,000 square kilometres each year.

These images were made in Ecuador over a three days in March 2023. They are from the rain forest of the Amazon basin close to the Kiwcha village of Edén, and in the cloud forest of the Andean foot hills near Cosanga
